Debate Over Advisors’ “Safe Exit” Shows No Sign of Stopping: Roni

Former Member of Parliament and political analyst Golam Maula Rony has said, “The debate over the advisors’ safe exit that began a few days ago has now continued for more than a week, yet it shows no sign of stopping. Rather, one incident after another is taking place, and many advisors are voluntarily making statements and reacting in various ways.”

In a video message posted on his YouTube channel, Rony said, “Leaders of political parties are also commenting on this issue of ‘safe exit’ in different ways.”

“As a result, the government—which was expected to hold one of the fairest elections in history and which was formed through a remarkable mass uprising that divided the nation into two camps: Awami League versus the protesters—has lost much of that initial spirit. The emotional attachment, the excitement, the love people felt in the beginning has now not only faded but completely reversed. Many people are now saying, ‘We were better off before,’ and that perhaps Bangladesh still needs an iron lady like Sheikh Hasina.”

“Yet,” he added, “just 14 months ago, Dr. Muhammad Yunus was regarded as a legendary figure in our country.”

Rony continued, “After coming to power, Dr. Yunus formed his advisory council. From August 2024 to 2025, our dreams gradually began to shatter. The advisors he appointed started behaving in an unreasonable manner, and gradually, people like us also began to speak out.”

“Every time he has traveled abroad, some kind of controversy has followed. Whether political, economic, or diplomatic—Bangladesh has not gained much from any of those visits. Yet, we spent thousands of crores of taka on his 14–15 foreign trips, though we have no clear record of the total cost. As a result, the activities of the government, which once generated great public enthusiasm and hope, have now backfired. People are speaking out harshly.”

Rony further stated, “Meanwhile, NCP leader Nahid has dropped a political bombshell by claiming that certain advisors are negotiating with various quarters for their safe exit. To convince those they’re negotiating with, they are allegedly offering different facilities and privileges. This, in turn, has led to a deadlock within the administration. Following Nahid’s comments, several advisors have spoken on the issue of safe exit. But in a surprising twist, Dr. Asif Nazrul said that no advisor needs to escape; rather, what the country itself needs right now is a safe exit. Whether he said it thoughtfully or not, I don’t know—but he didn’t realize how frighteningly significant that statement really was.”
